Frequently asked questions
General
An interior designer can hold many hats on a project. We are often brought into the project early on to work with the architect on the initial design for the project. Once the project is designed, we will begin sourcing materials based on the clients design preferences and budget. During the project, we will work closely with the trades and builder to make sure the project is completed to the homeowner's needs. Once construction is wrapped up, we often work with our clients to furnish their homes.
Beyond knowing what works well together from a design standpoint, it is our job to often help our clients troubleshoot during their project. We can come up with creative ways to complete the project in the clients design preferences, but stick within their budget. As an interior designer, I have more resources in terms of vendors, suppliers and trade professionals than homeowners do. We also work closely with many artisans to create a space that is cohesive.
As a full service interior designer, this means we work on your project start to finish. We create floor plans, design boards, elevations, renderings, etc. We will source finished materials and create a presentation for you to see and feel the items that will be going into your home. From there, we handle all of the site observation, communication with your builder and make sure everything is being installed accordingly.
For new construction and remodel projects, I bill at an hourly rate. I have learned that this keeps the cost down and the owner in control of their budget. Projects that require the installation of furnishings, we bill an hourly rate to source furniture and percentage of the furniture upon ordering the furniture and accessories.
